UEFS has established itself as a center of knowledge production, which means that research has become a continuous and essential activity. The growth and strengthening of research practice occur in all areas of knowledge and are visible from indicators such as the consolidation of emerging research groups and the increased approval of projects in agencies and national and international funding organizations.
Nowadays, UEFS has more than 500 registered research projects in the Research and Graduate Office, in pure and applied modalities and covering all departments:
Exact Sciences - 71 projects;
Biological Sciences - 123 projects;
Physics - 39 projects;
Language and Arts - 52 projects;
Education - 36 projects;
Humanities - 61 projects;
Technology - 93 projects;
Health - 143 projects;
Applied Social Sciences - 24 projects.
Most projects are directed to problems in the semi-arid area of Bahia and Northeast, investigated in different aspects of their bio-geographical, historical, cultural, health, economic or political complexity.
Due to the results achieved, many with international recognition, and the capacity to face new challenges in the production of knowledge, the practice of research in UEFS constitutes a priority action for regional development.
