Higher Education Teacher Training Program from African Countries

Launched in February 2018, PROAfri – Higher Education Teacher Training Program from African Countries is an initiative of the International Cooperation Group of Brazilian Universities (GCUB) in partnership with the Ministry of Science and Technology, Higher Education and Professional Technician Mozambique (MCTESTP), and with the support of the Educational Themes Division of the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (DCE/MRE) and the Brazilian Embassy in Maputo.

The Program aims to support the Strategic Plan for Higher Education in Mozambique (PEES:2012-2020) , in its goals of expanding access and improving the quality of university education in the country. To this end, the Program offers stricto sensu postgraduate courses to higher education teachers at universities in Mozambique, through the granting of academic scholarships offered by Brazilian universities associated with GCUB, for Master's and Doctorate courses duly recognized by the Brazilian Ministry of Education.

The language of the courses is Portuguese, with postgraduate programs being able to offer subjects and academic activities in other languages.

Benefits for Fellows

  • Exemption from registration payments (program costs);
  • Monthly scholarships taking as a reference, at least, the amount paid by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES);
  • Access to university restaurants, laboratories and libraries.

Second Edition

In the Second Edition of ProAfri, 71 scholarships were awarded , offered by 24 universities associated with GCUB , distributed across the 5 regions of Brazil. Among the 71 scholarships offered, 34 were for Master's programs and 37 for Doctoral degrees.

Previous editions

In its first edition, launched in 2018, 66 foreign students participated in PROAfri, in 25 universities associated with GCUB, including:

  • 42 master's students;
  • 24 doctoral students.

By the end of the first semester of 2020, 5 master's students had already completed their training.
