The Brazil-Mexico Academic Mobility Program – BRAMEX is the result of a partnership between the International Cooperation Group of Brazilian Universities (GCUB) and the National Association of Universities and Higher Education Institutions ( ANUIES), with the support of the Division of Educational and Portuguese Language of the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (DELP-MRE), based on the ANUIES – GCUB Academic and Cultural Cooperation Agreement . The program consists of the mobility of Brazilian and Mexican undergraduate students for an academic semester, covering areas of knowledge in courses in exact, human and health disciplines.
BRAMEX's main objective is to promote academic cooperation between Brazil and Mexico. It was launched in 2011 and has already had 8 editions, and of the institutions associated with GCUB, 26 have already joined the program. More than 300 students in total, Brazilians and Mexicans , participated in the academic mobility offered by BRAMEX.
The benefits of the program include exemptions from academic fees, assistance with meals and accommodation for students, as well as some optional assistance. These conveniences are applicable to both students from Brazil and academics from Mexico.
GCUB's main partner institution in carrying out the program is ANUIES. Since 1950, this Association has collaborated with the creation of organizations aimed at the integral development of the fields of teaching, research and extension of Mexican culture, through the promotion of quality higher education.
Within the scope of the program, the home university is responsible for:
- Carry out the selection process for vacancies and universities established in the
- Ensure monitoring of the study program proposed by the exchange student and approved by the academic coordinator of the same HEI;
- Recognize the credits acquired by the student in the destination country;
- Subsidize (within your budget limitations) transportation expenses for your exchange student(s).
The destination university is responsible for:
- Receive every six months the number of foreign students equal to the number of places stipulated in the mobility calendar, regardless of the number of students sent to the destination university;
- Guarantee accommodation and food during the study period;
- Monitor the progress of the exchange student’s studies;
- Offer exchange students access to all resources and facilities available to regularly enrolled students;
- Issue a certificate of study achievement for the exchange student;
- Write an annual evaluation report for the BRAMEX Program.
The exchange student is responsible for:
- Be regularly enrolled at the home university;
- Have completed at least 50% of the degree course;
- Present a study plan for the subjects (compulsory and optional) chosen to be studied abroad;
- Have a minimum level of knowledge of the language that allows you to follow classes in the language of the destination university;
- Pay the costs related to obtaining a consular visa and health and accident insurance, as well as any other expenses not listed above.
How to participate
To apply for a place in the Brazil-Mexico Student Exchange Program, the student must be regularly enrolled in an undergraduate course at an institution associated with GCUB that has joined the program.
Registration is made through Brazilian and Colombian universities participating in BRAMEX, after defining the students' postulation dates and additional requirements, following the following steps:
- Opening of the Notice at the Universities of Brazil and Mexico for the selection of students for the BRAMEX Program;
- Sending selected candidates to Mexican Universities and receiving documentation from candidates presented by Mexican Universities;
- The selection process takes place at the educational institution itself, based on criteria defined in specific notices;
- Sending of acceptance letters, as well as the necessary documentation for issuing the student visa in Brazil;
- Student Forms are sent with the information of Brazilian students from your institution selected for Mexican Universities and Mexican students selected for your institution.

In 2020, 114 Brazilian and Mexican students were selected to participate in the Brazil-Mexico Student Mobility Program, 56 in the first semester and 58 in the second, of the current year.
